This year has literally flown by- here are some highlights of a pretty busy year. In case you do not see the picture at the bottom of this page, this summer I am partnering with Parish Episcopal. There will be a week long summer camp where students will get to learn not only to program, but build cars for some lucky kiddos!
My UTD students delivered their manual and a modified Wild Thing. The hope is that their plans can be easily replicated and posted as an open source. While I still am making simple switch ride on cars (like the ones made thru Go Baby Go), the majority of the cars distributed are more advanced. They allow a child to drive using a joystick, and have given new mobility to kids who did not have it. Sometimes these cars are a precursor to a power wheelchair! Other times, it is just to show a child how to move. One therapist wrote, “She is moving and exploring more with and without the car.”
There was an article in a local paper about this sweet boy and Early Wheels!
This cutie graduated from his car to getting a big boy power wheelchair!
But probably most exciting…..This summer I will be partnering with Parish Episcopal for a week long community service camp. Students will learn to program and build cars, that will then in turn be given away at the end of the week.
